Pretties by Scott Westerfeld

Pretties by Scott Westerfeld
My Rating:
About the book: The book Pretties follows the story of Tally Youngblood, except in this book Tally has become a pretty, where she lives in new pretty town, and has forgotten everything about being an ugly. She has undergone surgery that not only changes her looks but has turned her into a mindless bubble head. In her new life she’s preoccupied with going out to parties and drinking. Tally starts dating this new guy Zane whose also a pretty and he starts to help Tally start to remember. Zane's trying to help Tally stay bubbly so she can remember about the old ugly days. One of the guys from the new smoke breaks into new pretty town to give Tally two pills containing the cure to fix her brain. Tally and Zane both take one pill and they start to see differently everyday. Zane starts getting really bad head aches though as a reaction from the pill. In a desperate attempt to save Zane, Tally must escape pretty town and take him to the only Dr.'s that know how to save him at the new smoke.

What I think:
I though this book was incredible and brilliant. It kept me on edge the whole time, always wanting more. I think its incredible how Scott can make up such a brilliant story. He’s constantly adding new twists and turns to the book and I love it! At first when Tally and Zane were together I was a little mad because I wanted David and Tally to be together but then at the end of the book I realized that I liked Zane more and that David was actually a mommas boy. What ruined it for me with David was that he never came to rescue Tally from new Pretty town like he was suppose to. Zane has been there for Tally the most and there just meant to be. The ending made me so mad though as soon as Zane and Tally finally could be free, everything changes and special circumstances comes and ruins it all! But over all great book!! LOVED IT! I'm reading Specials right now.. : )

Uglies by Scott Westerfeld

Uglies by Scott Westerfeld
My Rating:

Amazon.com Review

Playing on every teen’s passionate desire to look as good as everybody else, Scott Westerfeld (Midnighters) projects a future world in which a compulsory operation at sixteen wipes out physical differences and makes everyone pretty by conforming to an ideal standard of beauty. The "New Pretties" are then free to play and party, while the younger "Uglies" look on enviously and spend the time before their own transformations in plotting mischievous tricks against their elders. Tally Youngblood is one of the most daring of the Uglies, and her imaginative tricks have gotten her in trouble with the menacing department of Special Circumstances. She has yearned to be pretty, but since her best friend Shay ran away to the rumored rebel settlement of recalcitrant Uglies called The Smoke, Tally has been troubled. The authorities give her an impossible choice: either she follows Shay’s cryptic directions to The Smoke with the purpose of betraying the rebels, or she will never be allowed to become pretty. Hoping to rescue Shay, Tally sets off on the dangerous journey as a spy. But after finally reaching The Smoke she has a change of heart when her new lover David reveals to her the sinister secret behind becoming pretty. The fast-moving story is enlivened by many action sequences in the style of videogames, using intriguing inventions like hoverboards that use the rider’s skateboard skills to skim through the air, and bungee jackets that make wild downward plunges survivable -- and fun. Behind all the commotion is the disturbing vision of our own society -- the Rusties -- visible only in rusting ruins after a virus destroyed all petroleum. Teens will be entranced, and the cliffhanger ending will leave them gasping for the sequel. (Ages 12 and up) --Patty Campbell

What I think:
The synopsis has already been described above so I wont go into it to much. To make it simple Tally lives in Ugly Ville which is outside of Pretty Town. According the story everyone’s considered ugly until there 16th birthday. On there 16th birthday everyone gets plastic surgery and there made into a pretty. Tally meets Shay her new best friend who wants to run away to a secret village called the smoke. In smoke it’s a hidden village that no one knows about and everyone stays ugly there. Shay goes with this guy from the smoke named David and Tally stays behind to become pretty. All Tally ever wanted was to become pretty as well as everyone else because that’s what she was raised to one day do.
The day of her 16th birthday she goes to get the surgery but they wont give it to her because her friend Shays missing. They want Tally to travel to the smoke to find shay and signal them so they can locate the smoke. Tally refuses because she doesn’t want to betray her friend. She ends up going because if not they’ll never turn her pretty. She follows her best friends directions to the smoke alone. Once she gets there all she has to is open the locket they gave her and they’ll be able to track her and the smoke. Once Tally arrives in Smoke she’s welcomed and ends up liking it there. Tally has to make a huge decision to either betray her best friend or to stay at smoke and be ugly forever…
I absolutely loved this book and Tally and David and Shay! I loved the ending and I’m dieing to read the next book! : )

Mockingjay by Susan Collins

Mockingjay by Susan Collins
My Rating:

Amazon.com Review

About the book:
Against all odds, Katniss Everdeen has survived the Hunger Games twice. But now that she's made it out of the bloody arena alive, she's still not safe. The Capitol is angry. The Capitol wants revenge. Who do they think should pay for the unrest? Katniss. And what's worse, President Snow has made it clear that no one else is safe either. Not Katniss's family, not her friends, not the people of District 12. Powerful and haunting, this thrilling final installment of Suzanne Collins's groundbreaking The Hunger Games trilogy promises to be one of the most talked about books of the year.

What I think: Mockingjay is the third and Final book of the Hunger Games. It was a great ending to the trilogy. I loved the first two books and I read this book too quickly because I wanted to find out what happens to Katniss. In the previous book Katniss escaped the hunger games but Peeta was taken prisoner. Her home in district 12 was blown up and is now destroyed.

In the third book Katniss now lives in district 13, which no one knew still existed, where the citizens all live underground. The rebels want Katniss to become the Mockingjay, meaning she’ll be the face for the rebellion. She accepts and becomes the Mockingjay as song as they give Petta and the other tributes immunity. She’s being used as a pawn still even as a volunteer. Peeta is long gone mentally and its sad to see Katniss in the state that she’s in. Katniss has changed mentally as well, she’s been through war and back and she’s barely holding on. This book becomes much more than a love story, it’s a story about war and fighting. This book felt so real to me it was unbelievable. I’m not going to say anymore because I don’t want to give anything else away! I loved this series and HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT TO EVERYONE! Now go read it! : )

Catching Fire by Suzanna Collins

Catching Fire by Suzanna Collins
Catching Fire by Suzanna Collins
My Rating:

About the Book:
Against all odds, Katniss Everdeen has won the annual Hunger Games with fellow district tribute Peeta Mellark. But it was a victory won by defiance of the Capitol and their harsh rules. Katniss and Peeta should be happy. After all, they have just won for themselves and their families a life of safety and plenty. But there are rumors of rebellion among the subjects, and Katniss and Peeta, to their horror, are the faces of that rebellion. The Capitol is angry. The Capitol wants revenge. http://www.google.com/products/catalog?
